HMAS Farncomb at Osborne Naval Shipyard

Collins Class Submarines

ASC has proudly served as Australia’s sovereign submarine builder and sustainer for over 35 years. Supported by a predominantly Australian supply chain, ASC delivers world-class submarine performance and above international benchmark availability to the Royal Australian Navy.

ASC constructed the Collins Class Submarines and now sustains and upgrades the fleet at facilities in Osborne, South Australia and Henderson, in Western Australia. Deep maintenance work (full cycle docking) takes place at the Osborne Naval Shipyard, with shorter term maintenance and upgrades undertaken at Henderson.

The Collins Class Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Program will be implemented at Osborne from 2026, and will update key equipment including propulsion systems, diesel motors, generators, power conversion and distribution systems, along with a range of hull assessments and upgrades.

As part of ANI’s expansion and modernisation program, Collins Class facility upgrades and refurbishments are being planned to support the LOTE Program.
