About the Role:

Australian Naval Infrastructure Pty Ltd (ANI) is the owner, developer and manager of the Osborne Naval Shipyard, supporting the Commonwealth’s Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Plans. ANI is responsible for the design, construction and operation of the shipyard infrastructure, including the new Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard that will support the AUKUS program, as well as the management of common-user facilities across the precinct.

Based in Adelaide, ANI plays a pivotal role in one of Australia’s most significant nation-building programs. With more than $30 billion in infrastructure investment and a rapidly growing workforce, we are seeking an experienced Payroll Lead to take ownership of our payroll function and help support our continued growth.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Payroll Lead is responsible for the end-to-end management of ANI’s payroll function, ensuring all payroll activities are delivered accurately, efficiently and in compliance with legislative, taxation and reporting requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys balancing hands-on payroll delivery with continuous process improvement, stakeholder engagement and compliance management.

This position may suit an individual seeking a part time (0.8FTE) or full-time role.

Key Responsibilities:

As Payroll Lead, you will:

  • Manage and oversee the end-to-end fortnightly payroll process (workforce of circa 200 currently).
  • Execute payroll runs and process payroll adjustments as required.
  • Complete Single Touch Payroll (STP) submissions, including annual reporting requirements.
  • Manage superannuation submissions, payments and reconciliations.
  • Coordinate novated lease reporting and reconciliations.
  • Prepare leave liability journals and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile payroll transactions to the general ledger in partnership with the Head of Finance.
  • Prepare and submit statutory returns, including Payroll Tax and ReturnToWorkSA obligations, and complete annual reconciliations.
  • Manage ReturnToWorkSA claims, including: liaising with ANI’s insurer, maintaining accurate claim records and documentation, as well as preparing and submitting reimbursement claims for salary and associated costs.
  • Complete month-end payroll activities and reporting.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries and provide trusted advice to employees and leaders across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and reporting.

About You:

You are a highly organised and detail-oriented payroll professional who takes pride in delivering accurate outcomes and exceptional service. You bring strong technical payroll expertise, a collaborative mindset and the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

You will also have:

  • Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain relevant security clearances.
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll in a medium to large organisation, ideally with a workforce of 100+ employees.
  • Previous experience in a dedicated payroll role, with a strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to provide accurate, well-considered advice to managers and senior leaders.
  • A proactive, adaptable and customer-focused approach.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience using TechnologyOne (TechOne).
  • Experience working within a finance team environment.
  • Experience managing statutory reporting, reconciliations and payroll compliance activities.
