Environment Project Manager
About the Job:
Australian Naval Infrastructure Pty Ltd (ANI) is the owner, developer and manager of the Osborne Naval Shipyard, supporting the Commonwealth’s Naval Shipbuilding Plan. ANI is responsible for designing, constructing and managing shipyard infrastructure, including the new Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) to support the AUKUS program, while also operating and maintaining common use facilities that enable Australia’s sovereign naval shipbuilding capability.
ANI is seeking an experienced Environmental Project Manager to lead the development and delivery of environmental programs, projects and initiatives that support operational, construction and strategic outcomes across the Osborne Naval Shipyard.
Reporting into the Infrastructure Development team, this role is responsible for managing environmental projects throughout the full project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with legislative obligations, stakeholder requirements and organisational objectives. The position plays a critical role in balancing environmental performance with the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and construction programs within a highly regulated defence environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver environmental programs and projects that support ANI’s operational and strategic objectives
- Provide expert environmental advice to project teams and stakeholders throughout project planning and delivery
- Manage environmental project requirements, stakeholder engagement and project outcomes across the full lifecycle
- Coordinate environmental assessments, approvals and compliance activities to ensure legislative and organisational requirements are met
- Oversee environmental consultancy and contractor engagements to deliver project outcomes safely, efficiently and effectively
- Manage environmental risks, issues and project constraints relating to safety, time, cost and quality objectives
- Foster collaborative relationships across internal teams, government agencies, regulators, contractors and community stakeholders
- Lead environmental negotiations and stakeholder discussions to achieve positive project outcomes
- Prepare high quality reports, submissions, briefings and presentations for executive and external stakeholders
- Monitor project performance and proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement
About You:
You are an experienced environmental professional with a strong background delivering environmental outcomes within infrastructure, construction, industrial or major project environments. You bring excellent stakeholder management skills, sound technical knowledge and the ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks while building trusted working relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
You will also have:
- Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain any required Defence security clearances
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Planning or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental programs and projects within infrastructure, construction, industrial or government environments
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, approvals and compliance frameworks, including relevant South Australian environmental requirements
- Experience administering consultancy and contractor agreements and managing project delivery outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing briefings, reports, submissions and regulatory documentation
- Well-developed negotiation, influencing and stakeholder engagement capabilities
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands - Experience working with community groups, regulatory authorities and senior stakeholders
- A collaborative and solutions-focused approach with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
