Safety, Health & Environment Manager – Projects

Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) is at the centre of Australia’s Naval Shipbuilding Plan. As the owner, developer and manager of the Osborne Naval Shipyard, we play a critical role in delivering world-class infrastructure to support the nation’s defence capability.

Our work includes the design, construction and ongoing management of shipyard facilities, including the new Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) supporting the AUKUS program.

We’re looking for an experienced SHE Manager to support the safe and successful delivery of the NPSCY program. This is a key leadership role working closely with project teams and contractors to ensure safety is embedded across all phases of delivery.

• Undertake project life cycle reviews to support key stages such as design reviews, principal contractor management plans, contractor SHE requirements, milestone and resourcing plans and participation in contractor performance processes
• Deliver sustainable SHE risk reduction programs that identify mitigation opportunities and support continuous improvement
• Support engagement / onboarding and ongoing management of contractors and equipment procurement activities (Prequalification SMS assessment, site visits, ANI SMS briefings etc.)
• Provide support to project leadership in site audits to ensure safe systems of work, safe plant and a safe working environment
• Lead critical risks & critical control programs within each project
• Establish effective internal and external communication channels to enable information sharing and develop and maintain relationships to influence and mentor business leaders at all levels
• Work collaboratively with others to foster the development of systems, positive attitudes and beliefs in support of achievement and maintenance of a generative SHE culture

You bring strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and support meaningful change. You’ll play a key role in shaping safe outcomes on a high-impact, high-visibility project, while working with experienced professionals in a collaborative environment.

• Tertiary Qualifications in Safety or related discipline (essential)
• Lead ICAM Investigator
• Extensive practical experience (10 years) in senior SHE functional roles, preferably in a large construction or complex high risk organisation
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks and governance requirements
